Psalm 44 (ESV)
10 You have made us turn back from the foe,
and those who hate us have gotten spoil.
11 You have made us like sheep for slaughter
and have scattered us among the nations.
12 You have sold your people for a trifle,
demanding no high price for them.
13 You have made us the taunt of our neighbors,
the derision and scorn of those around us.
14 You have made us a byword among the nations,
a laughingstock[b] among the peoples.
15 All day long my disgrace is before me,
and shame has covered my face
16 at the sound of the taunter and reviler,
at the sight of the enemy and the avenger.
17 All this has come upon us,
though we have not forgotten you,
and we have not been false to your covenant.
18 Our heart has not turned back,
nor have our steps departed from your way;
19 yet you have broken us in the place ofjackals
and covered us with the shadow of death.
20 If we had forgotten the name of our God
or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
21 would not God discover this?
For he knows the secrets of the heart.
22 Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
23 Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord?
Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever!
24 Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
our belly clings to the ground.
26 Rise up; come to our help!
Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!
Oh there are days
I turn away
Believing your love
It’s too painful
Days the weight
Of love breaks
And my cries
Long for days
Days of striving free
Of no pain I feel
Hold me tighter
Days of old
Christ in you.
Feel the pain
Beneath the shame
Not ever yours.
For I am
Of your head.
My heart in you
Is growing deep
You lay your life
And in that cross
In the thorns
Sky of bright
Not one star
I know them all
And am calling
It’s their weight
Don’t turn away
My Son in you
Isaiah 40:26 (AMP)
Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these heavenly bodies, The One who brings out their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one is missing.
Oh My Shepherd
Thank You that You hear
Our many cries.
Caught by schemes
Of an enemy
Lashing and whipping
Your very heart in us
We: Your very own Body
In tender care
In a weight of lies.
But oh how You see
When no one else does
Your children weeping
Forsaken, lone: they believe
But: You see.
When no one else does
Our hearts turned aside
For shining You.
The lies spoken
The lies we receive
Deeming us wrong
And yet You choose
To go outside
To carry the scorn
Upon us laid
To call us there
For You welcome
Each child as Your own
For the blood that poured
The most wounded, scarred
As healed, covered
As always and forever
No, we are not cut off. For the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases:
Luke 15 ESV
2 And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.”
3 So he told them this parable: 4 “What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open country, and go after the one that is lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing.6 And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.’ 7 Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
